In our suite, the layout went: living room, kitchen, my parents' room, my room and the room my older brothers shared. Unlike most apartments -- but like nearly all hotels -- there was no hallway connecting various rooms, just a series of doors leading to the next space. This meant that my brothers had to walk through my bedroom several times a day to get to their boys-only cave.
I know I pleaded with them to play dolls, to watch me do a headstand, to tell me a joke, to give me some gum, every single time they walked through my room. They just wanted to retreat, listen to some Queen, read Mad and not have to defend against a full-on hail of little sister.
So today, years later, I apologize. Sorry boys.
